Such a sad weekend-Closing Hunt weekend. Where did the season go???? (Although we’re beagling at Yutan on Saturday and hunting at Cumberland on Sunday)

Saturday we hunted from our Persia country. We had 23 riders, three were from Dallas: MFH Marcella Thacker-Norman, Ashely Tatum and Lee Baesler.

We don’t hunt our Persia country very often and the last time we were there we had an exhilarating view and run on a big healthy coyote!

Landowners Jesi and Dillon have seen multiple coyotes on their property, so a huntin’ we will go.

We had a great time riding across the the fields and our guests were impressed with the amount of open spaces that we had available to gallop across. We are so fortunate to have so many different countries to hunt.

We didn’t see coyotes, we didn’t have any ground testers (which we can’t claim on Sunday)and we had a lovely brunch hosted by Anne Marquardt.

Sunday was a beautiful day, much warmer than Saturday (It was also my birthday, so it was a fabulous day!). Huntsman Dave brought out two hounds that are retiring after years of faithful service to NHH. Daisy will live out her days with Huntsman Dave and Bre. Donavan is still looking for the perfect retirement home 🙂

We had around 40 riders, not counting staff and several support vehicles with various cookies and beverages – a hunt without a whoopee wagon is tough.

We headed east, across the little wooden bridge, through Big Jim’s pasture, then over some coop, around some trees, cruising some tree lines and we hear whipper-in  Nancy E on the walk-talkie, ‘Tally Ho’. Huntsman Dave carries the hounds to the ‘honey pot’ and they start voicing and we start galloping along, looking and hoping. Nothing comes of it, but the hounds are working. It’s so fun to watch the hounds working !

We did have 4 ground testers-a record amount on one day 😡 No one was hurt, but the ground is always hard-

We returned to the clubhouse to a wonderful meal provided by MFH Luke M, MFH Dave K and MFH Monte A.

In a surprise announcement John Kruger and Jenny Nguyen were awarded their buttons. John has donated equipment to help renovations at the kennels and while we were building the kennels at Burwell. He also donated the washer and dryer for the kennels.

Jenny has really helped publicize NHH in print, a big spread in the Nebraskland magazine, an online article that reached thousands and pictures in the national publication, The Covertside.

Thank you to Emma Link, Ben Christie, Melinda Brahms and anyone else I forgot for allowing me to use thier pictures.

Respectfully,

Carine NHH Honorary Secretary and Indie (I’ve been spotted)

Tally Ho!

We love our huntsman !
